PEARL OUTLAW

See Beyond Limits. Live Beyond Sight.

I’m Pearl Outlaw – competitive blind athlete racing to build something bigger than medals: a future where para sport has no barriers.

ABOUT

Meet Pearl Outlaw

I’m a competitive blind athlete racing in nordic skiing and coastal rowing at the national and international level. I’ve stood on World Championships podiums, won national titles, and raced as part of Team USA. But my story isn’t just about medals.

I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a progressive eye condition, at nine years old. As my vision faded, I didn’t stop challenging myself – I just found new ways to compete.

I found rowing in high school and made the para national team in 2018. A year later, I stood on a World Championships podium with a bronze medal. Then I discovered nordic skiing, where I’d go on to win national titles. I was building something.

Then came the moment that shifted everything. When I was barred from competing in coastal rowing because of my disability, I had to decide: walk away, or fight back. I chose to fight – not just for myself, but for every visually impaired athlete who’s been excluded.

I’m often the only blind female skier on the course, sometimes the only para athlete at all. It’s lonely, and honestly, it can be disheartening. But a teammate once told me: every time we race, we move the sport forward. If we don’t show up, there’s one less opportunity to show what we’re capable of.

That’s what drives me now. I’m not just chasing podiums anymore – I’m clearing the path for those coming after me.

My Mission

You don’t need perfect vision to have a clear purpose.

I’ve learned that disability doesn’t define capability — but representation does. That’s why I’m passionate about sharing my story, advocating for inclusion in adaptive sports, and building a platform where every athlete, creator, or dreamer knows they belong.

Whether I’m training, creating music, or speaking to schools and organizations, my message is simple:

Real stories. Real laughs. Real impact.

Beyond the Finish Line

Outside of competition, I love connecting with others who believe in the power of persistence. Through storytelling, video content, and music, I share the behind-the-scenes of training, travel, and everyday life as a blind athlete.

These moments — the laughter, the wipeouts, the small wins — are what remind me why I started. Every day is a new chance to prove that possibility doesn’t stop where sight does.

Fight for Inclusion

In 2025, World Rowing excluded visually impaired athletes from coastal competition without precedent. I’m fighting to change that – and you can help.

More ways to support this advocacy work coming soon, including template letters and petitions to decision-makers.

Support

Training, competing, and advocating all come with costs. If you’d like to help, your support goes directly toward competition travel, training, and inclusion work.
